Bananas For: Small Adventure

Another fantastic artist from Unique LA, Keiko Brodeur-Ward leads us on a Small Adventure with her forest-inspired collection of the same name. Darling owls, bears and birds abound in her cards and original art, while her bow and arrow wooden earrings and her Alphabet Adventures print are charming pieces that leave you feeling a bit more inspired to seek out your own good fun, whether as an octopus wrestler or a knight.

Monkey Find: Timber!

It was a weekend spent at a picnic above the city and at Unique LA combing the offerings of artisans and eating far too much Whipped Marshmallow by Bakelab. (I forsee a fluffernutter sandwich in my future). In honor of our fair city, I'm dedicating the whole week to all things local. First up is Timber!, Chad Eaton's fantastical world of lumberjacks, bosses in top hats, bicycles and bears, and a MONKEY FIND from Unique LA. Upon meeting him you'll find that the lines between art and the real world are blurred as his bearded visage is strangely familiar. Could this lumberjack be. . .? Perhaps, but what's certain is that he is a marvelous designer and very talented artist. Get your own burly bit of woodsy genius here.

It's arrived! Unique LA is back this weekend for another independent design extravaganza. See you there?

If you're about to brave The Grove or the Beverly Center for your holiday shopping this weekend, please pause. Don't do it. Instead, think outside the box (pun intended) and explore the offerings of hundreds of local independent designers and artists at this weekend's UNIQUE LA Holiday Show including the likes of (the previously mentioned) paper gurus Fugu Fugu Press, Anemone Letterpress, Dee&Lala, eEvil Ink Design, and Rock Scissor Paper plus clothing, ceramic, handbag, toy, houseware, beauty, print, and eco designers with edibles by Platine Cookies and more.

When: December 5 & 6, 11am - 6pm both days


Where: California Market Center (110 East 9th Street - map it)


Cost: $10, with partial proceeds going to the local non-profit 826LA. Entry gets you an exclusive-to-the-show limited edition tote bag, a free drink ticket, unlimited re-entry for both days, and access to a great lineup of free workshops. (children 12 and under are free)
