Stay In: Desert Sands to Oasis

STAY-IN-DESERT
You can have Palm Springs for Memorial Day—I'd rather escape to the desert during Restaurant Week! More of a STAY NEAR than a STAY IN, this is a trip itinerary that will have you smiling among the cacti and chowing down on local creations at Palm Spring's best eateries. So, grab your sunhat and shades for this one—it's going to be hot.

EAT: Where to start? Get yourself to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club for a day of splashing about so you can work up an appetite for the three course Restaurant Week Menu at their King's Highway restaurant. Choose from fresh summer dishes like Couscous Salad with Preserved Lemon and Toasted Pistachios, Lemon Spaghettini, and Sticky Date Pudding. Or, if you're ready to explore Palm Springs, pick a place out of the 100+ participating restaurants.

DRINK: Gussy up and head over to Mister Parker's for a menu of classic cocktails and some very good (beautiful) people watching. Sipping your Manhattan under low lights and in fab old Hollywood decor, you'll feel like you're part of the vacationing Sinatra set. If you're looking for a more cozy place to imbibe, you can always perch at the Mini Bar where drinks are equally delicious.

STAY: Retire for the evening in chic lemony style (it's Lemon Month, after all) at the Viceroy Palm Springs. If you're not yet sleepy, relish your escape at the Citron Bar with a Chill Out Limeade (Citron vodka, fresh mint, lemonade and lime) or a tangy Pomelo Italiano (grapefruit vodka, Campari and grapefruit juice). Come morning, book yourself a poolside massage and treat yourself to a Peach Passion Smoothie. This is how a STAY IN is done.
